This blog will help you keep up to date on the workings of the Maple Mountain High School Theatre Department. There is so much going on both in and out of the classroom, and this blog will help you stay current with what is up and when it is happening.
Some things you should know about Mr. Moss and the MMHS Theatre Program:
- Mr. Moss has taught for 10 years before coming to Maple Mountain. He has taught at Bingham and Riverton High Schools, but has also been an instructor at Brigham Young University, University of Utah, Westminster College, and Utah State University.
- Mr. Moss is a board member and past president of the Utah Theatre Association.
- To improve his perspective as an educator, Mr. Moss continues to act and direct throughout the community and has had several original scripts produced.
- All of this leads to understanding the core principle of the Maple Mountain Theatre Department: Theatre is vital component of high school education and can teach important skills for life long success to all students.
Theatre promotes the development of problem solving skills, understaning self-motivation, honing means of expression, being able to function in any role within a group or organization, increasing awareness of the perspectives of others, and allows participants to tap into the creative base of every individual. The skills gained in a theatre class will better prepare students for the future job market where innovation is required more often than routine and set expectations.
Theatre is fun, exciting, and rewarding. It is also a discipline - it requires work. But, the accomplishment is all the greater for the effort put into it.
So, I invite you. Take a class. Audition for a show. Buy a ticket and enjoy a performance. Theatre is an ancient art which can unearth the truth of the human experience today and prepare our students for the future, whether the future means they will be on a stage or off it.
And, it's lots of fun. Did I mention that?
